Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago (N) Cubs has just enjoyed one of the better weeks of his career. That fact was not lost on National League officials, who named him Player of the Week.
Soriano logged a .440 batting average for the Chicago (N) Cubs, racking up 9 RBIs and 2 home runs.
For 2008 Soriano is hitting .287 with 12 home runs. His stats include 65 RBIs and 64 runs scored.

| Friday, July 25th, 2008: Zambrano Sparkles, Blanks Washington
Chicago (N) pitcher Carlos Zambrano blanked the Washington Nationals 6-0, tossing a 3-hitter while issuing 5 walks and collecting 4 strikeouts.
After his sharp shutout performance, he said that he gives a lot of the credit to his batterymate. "Me and him are just locked in out there. He's so great at having a feel for hitters. I couldn't do what I'm doing without him."
Zambrano has made 21 starts, tossed 124.2 innings, struck out 97 batters and walked 71. His record is 5-12 with a 5.13 ERA and he has limited other teams to a .282 batting average.

 | Monday, July 21st, 2008: Chicago (N) Deals Veal to Chicago (A) for League
The rumor has been going on for a while now, but today it was made official. The Chicago (N) Cubs sent 22-year old minor league starting pitcher Donald Veal to the Chicago (A) White Sox for 25-year old reliever Brandon League and 23-year old minor league catcher Tyler Reves.
Officials from both teams seem to be pleased with the deal.
For his career League has 3 wins and 3 losses with 1 saves. His ERA stands at 4.91 and he has fired third strikes past 58 batters in 99 innings while giving up 39 walks.
