Wednesday, July 30th, 2008: Toronto Shortstop Will Miss One Week
"It was kinda freaky. Hopefully, I'll be back in the lineup soon," said a dejected Brandon Wood after injuring himself in a game against Seattle. The Toronto manager told SION reporters, "He will miss up to one week with back spasms." The Blue Jays will have to decide over the next day or two whether the shortstop will go on the disabled list.

Wood is batting .258 this season in 96 games with 18 home runs, 62 RBIs and 42 runs scored. He has 82 hits in 318 at-bats.
Sunday, July 27th, 2008: Big Bang! 3 HR for New York (A)'s Rodriguez!
Bombs away!

New York (A) bombardier Alex Rodriguez set his sights on the stands and blasted three balls over the fence in a 11-6 win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

It was a powerful performance that should keep the fans at Yankee Stadium II buzzing for days.

He spoke to the writers in the postgame press room and said, "I guess you could say I was a good guesser today...especially on the last one...I was ahead in the count, so I got set for a certain pitch...and got it...all of it."

For the game the New York (A) third baseman had 3 hits in 3 at-bats, drove in 6 and scored 3 runs.

A. Rodriguez hit a solo-shot off J. Contreras in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off J. Contreras in the 3rd, walked in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off E. Santana in the 6th and walked in the 7th.

This year Rodriguez has collected a .271 batting average to date with 98 hits in 361 at-bats, 64 RBIs, 24 home runs and scored 71 times. He has played in 95 games.
Tuesday, July 1st, 2008: Gonzalez Holds Toronto Scoreless
Washington hurler Enrique Gonzalez was at his best as he whitewashed the Toronto Blue Jays 4-0 today.

"He just kept the ball down, did a good job, made his pitches," said the Toronto manager. "We didn't do a good job making adjustments, so we helped him out a little bit."

Gonzalez fired a 5-hitter and totaled 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in the shutout performance.

This year Gonzalez has compiled a 5-4 record with a 4.50 ERA in 16 starts.
