| Breaking News | | Friday, July 18th, 2008: Pujols Belts Number 300 The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Los Angeles (N) Dodgers 6-5 yesterday in a game that featured Albert Pujols's 300th career home run.
In the clubhouse, the Cardinals first baseman spoke about the milestone achievement. "To be honest, I don't even remember my first home run," he said. "But this one I don't think I'll forget. Who knows if I'll hit another hundred, or fifty, or even ten?"
On his historic day, Pujols banged out 1 hit in 4 at-bats and scored 1 run with 2 runs batted in.
During his career Pujols has chalked up 1446 hits and a .330 average with 300 home runs and 909 RBIs. | _White_Sox.jpg) | Wednesday, June 25th, 2008: Konerko Reaches 300 Mark 300 home runs is a lot of home runs to hit. It's a number that very few players reach. Today Paul Konerko became a member of that exclusive club. He belted it at U.S. Cellular Field against the Cardinals. But sometimes milestone homers don't win the game. The powerful Chicago (A) first baseman got all of the headlines, but St. Louis came away with the victory. They beat the White Sox 7-5.
During the postgame interview he told the press, "It's a big relief to get it over. I tried not to think about it, but it's kind of hard when you have a huge sign on the scoreboard staring at you every time you step up to the plate. The home run was nice, but I would have preferred to win the game."
His batting totals for the game showed 1 hit in 5 at-bats, 1 home run and 1 RBI.
The hardworking and dedicated Konerko also said, "I'll celebrate a little with my family tonight but not too much. This is not the last home run I will hit. I think I have a lot baseball left in me and have other goals. I'll get back to work tomorrow."
Konerko's career batting average is .280. In 1498 games, he has gotten 1509 hits, 300 home runs, 954 RBIs and scored 801 runs. | | Thursday, May 1st, 2008: Wainwright Fires Shutout in St. Louis Victory The Nationals manager was philosophical after his team was shut out by the St. Louis Cardinals 5-0.
"It was just one of those games, shake it off and do better next time," he said.
Adam Wainwright blanked them on 5 hits with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs. They were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Wainwright said.
"I set them up pretty good, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Checking out his stats for the season, Wainwright has racked up 4 wins and no losses in 5 starts, 0.96 ERA and struck out 30 batters in 37.2 innings. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | RF Juan Encarnacion | fractured eye socket | 6 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 63-55, .534 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 7.0 GB | | Record at home | 34-23, .596 PCT | | Record on the road | 29-32, .475 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-3, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 16-16, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 28-17, .622 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 35-38, .479 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 11-10, .524 PCT | | Record in May | 14-14, .500 PCT | | Record in June | 14-12, .538 PCT | | Record in July | 15-11, .577 PCT | | Record in August | 9-8, .529 PCT |
