Monday, August 18th, 2008: Hot Bat Wins AL Player of the Week Honors
The premier performer in the American League this week was Adrian Beltre of the Seattle Mariners.

The hot-hitting 29-year-old third baseman put up a .519 average and .552 on-base percentage, piling up 14 hits in 27 at-bats, 2 home runs, 3 RBIs and 7 runs scored.

That kind of hitting got him the AL Player of the Week honors.

Looking at his stats this year, Beltre has compiled a .265 batting average, while hitting 9 home runs and driving in 55 runs. He has played in 117 games and scored 55 runs.
Friday, August 15th, 2008: Beltre Bashes 5 Base Hits
Adrian Beltre exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Safeco Field. The Seattle third baseman had a field day in the 17-14 triumph over the Texas Rangers, finishing up with a 5-7 day and a spot in the league record book.

"My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."

Well, Beltre must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.

A. Beltre doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 6th, grounded out in the 7th, struck out in the 10th and hit an RBI single in the 11th.

Hitting .265 to date, Beltre has 9 home runs and 54 RBIs. He has played in 115 games.
Friday, August 1st, 2008: American League #1 Hurler is Oswalt
The American League scribes have picked July's Pitcher of the Month and have given the trophy to Roy Oswalt of Seattle. He was devastating on the mound last month with a standout 5-0 mark.

The Mariners star hurler made 5 starts with a 1.38 ERA and surrendered 37 hits in 39 innings. He struck out 29 and walked 7.

This year Oswalt has worked 141.1 innings with 102 strikeouts en route to a 10-2 record and 2.17 ERA.
