| Breaking News | | Sunday, June 29th, 2008: Evarts Records Shutout Against Charleston Steve Evarts of the Rome Braves blanked Charleston 4-0 on 3 hits. He rang up 9 strikeouts, keeping batters off balance all day long.
This season-to-date Evarts has 8 wins and 5 losses and a 2.54 ERA. | | Monday, May 12th, 2008: 5-Hit Barrage by Holt "It was like I was hitting little league pitching," said J.C. Holt after his 5-hit performance against the Drive. "No offense meant to Greenville, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was State Mutual Stadium!"
The Rome second baseman had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 5 at-bats and pacing his club to a 6-2 victory.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "J.C. worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Holt said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it."
J. Holt singled in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off M. James in the 9th.
So far this year Holt is batting .246 with 2 home runs, 11 RBIs and 12 runs scored. | | Thursday, May 8th, 2008: Stevens Hot, Tourists Cold "I hope we miss him next time," the Asheville manager said. "Stevens certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."
The Rome starter tamed the Asheville Tourists 1-0 with a 2-hit shutout, finishing the game with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks in a sharp outing.
"I enjoy facing a team like that where I can get an out on one, two or three pitches," Stevens said. "It gives me a chance to be a lot more aggressive."
