Saturday, July 26th, 2008: New York (N)'s Maine Stands Out in Shutout
John Maine of the New York (N) Mets spun his magic on the Houston Astros today. He blanked them 3-0 on 3 hits, registering 11 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Maine said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."

Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, the New York (N) skipper said, "We got solid pitching, good defense and we took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations. This was just a solid performance by everyone."

Maine in 2008 has fashioned a 10-8 mark, 3.48 ERA and thrown 132 innings in 20 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .238 against him.
Friday, June 20th, 2008: Maine Blitzes Baltimore
John Maine of the New York (N) Mets worked his mound magic on the Baltimore Orioles. He blanked them 7-0 on 6 hits, registering 8 strikeouts and 2 walks.

"Making good pitches is the name of the game and I made some good ones in this one," said Maine to SION scribes after the game.

This year Maine has compiled a 7-5 mark with a 3.83 ERA in 14 starts.
Wednesday, June 18th, 2008: Hamels Holds Mets Scoreless
The New York (N) Mets met their match today in Philadelphia hurler Cole Hamels. He kept them guessing the whole game and spun a 5-hit shutout.

"He just worked us over," the New York (N) skipper said. "He probably didn't even take a shower after the game. I don't think he even worked up a sweat. They could probably pitch him again tomorrow."

In the 4-0 victory Hamels whiffed 8 and gave up 1 walk.

Hamels has started 14 times this year, pitched 87 innings, fanned 91 batters and walked 17. His current record is 7 wins and 1 loss with a 3.62 ERA.
