Wednesday, July 16th, 2008: Richard Guns down Myrtle Beach
Clayton Richard of the Winston-Salem Warthogs was really in the zone as he mowed down the Myrtle Beach hitters 8-0 in a sterling mound performance.

"I'm feeling good overall," he said.

"I'm executing my pitches, I'm able to hit my spots and I'm getting outs in key situations."

Richard shut down the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, blanking them on 6 hits while registering 8 strikeouts and no walks.

In 2008 Richard has worked 135 innings with 82 strikeouts en route to a 7-6 record and 2.80 ERA.
Sunday, July 13th, 2008: Basner Tosses Shutout Against Blue Rocks
Ryan Basner of Myrtle Beach easily handled the Wilmington Blue Rocks, stopping them on 3 hits and chucking a complete game 7-0 shutout.

"He really did a job on us," said the Wilmington manager. "He had good command of his pitches. He changed speeds well and pretty much confused us. We never could zero in on him, but he certainly zeroed in on us."

Basner said, "Everything was working for me. Throwing my breaking stuff over the plate was big."

He finished the game with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in a solid outing.

To this point in the season Basner has 9 wins and 7 losses and a 3.44 ERA.
Saturday, July 5th, 2008: Big Day for Howell! Swats 5 Hits!
Frederick center fielder Joey Howell put on quite a show at Harry Grove Stadium with a big 5-hit day in the 13-6 victory over the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

In the postgame interview, he said with a smile, "Not a bad day at the plate...5-6...wish I could do this more often. It would do wonders for my batting average...and my salary, too."

J. Howell singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, hit a two-run double in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

A look at his season totals shows Howell with no home runs, .212 BA, .242 OBP, 16 RBIs and 24 runs scored.
