It was a banner day for Derek Jeter, who collected his 2500th hit in the New York (A) 6-5 win over Anaheim. Jeter went 1-5 in the game as both Yankees and Angels fans cheered Jeter, when he reached base after his historic hit.

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008: Escobar Fires Shutout in Anaheim Win
Kelvim Escobar of the Anaheim Angels worked his mound magic on the Boston Red Sox. He blanked them 5-0 on 4 hits, registering 7 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Friday, July 18th, 2008: 2000-th Hit for Thome!
The day belonged to Jim Thome of the Anaheim Angels as he became the latest player to reach the 2000-hit plateau. He did it in Anaheim's 6-5 win over Tampa Bay.
"It's a moment I'll never forget," said Thome after the game, "2000 hits is a lot. It puts you in a very select group. I never expected to be around long enough to reach a milestone like this."

He finished the day with 2 hits in 3 at-bats.

For his 2092-game career Thome has hit .280 with 2001 hits, 1436 RBIs and 524 home runs.
