| Breaking News | | Tuesday, July 1st, 2008: Braves Hurler Named SL's #1 Starter
The Southern League scribes have picked June's Pitcher of the Month and have given the trophy to Jair Jurrjens of Mississippi. He was devastating on the mound last month with a standout 4-0 mark.
The Braves star hurler made 6 starts with a 0.60 ERA and surrendered 23 hits in 44.2 innings. He struck out 38 and walked 2.
This year Jurrjens has compiled a 10-3 record with a 1.97 ERA.

| Sunday, June 1st, 2008: SL Selects Barry May's Top Starter
Kevin Barry certainly found a groove in May. The Mississippi starter posted 4 wins last month to easily claim the Southern League Pitcher of the Month.
During the month Barry was 4-0 with a 0.35 ERA. He made 7 starts, tossed 51.1 innings and had 28 strikeouts.
Year-to-date Barry shows a 5-1 record, 11 starts, 80 innings, 59 strikeouts and a 1.24 ERA.

 | Saturday, May 24th, 2008: Braves Lerew Blanks Suns
Anthony Lerew of Mississippi easily handled the Jacksonville Suns, stopping them on 2 hits and chucking a complete game 3-0 shutout.
"He really did a job on us," said the Jacksonville manager. "He had good command of his pitches. He changed speeds well and pretty much confused us. We never could zero in on him, but he certainly zeroed in on us."
Lerew said, "Everything was working for me. Throwing my breaking stuff over the plate was big."
He finished the game with 2 strikeouts and 3 walks in a solid outing.
Up to now Lerew has compiled an ERA of 2.19 with a 5-3 mark over 11 starts. He has 57 strikeouts in 70 innings and has held opponents to a .219 batting average.
