Sunday, June 1st, 2008: Memphis's Freese Winner, PCL Best Hitter in May
May's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Pacific Coast League. This month's trophy was presented to the Memphis third baseman, David Freese.

He starred by hitting .315 with a .345 on-base percentage, totaled 35 hits in 111 at-bats, 9 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

Freese is hitting at a .302 mark this season. His stats show 12 home runs, 33 RBIs and 28 runs scored. He has played 45 games for the Redbirds.
Monday, May 5th, 2008: Star of the Week Honored in PCL
With some great hand-eye coordination and a sweet, compact swing, Memphis Redbirds first baseman Brian Barden took the Pacific Coast League by storm this past week to take the latest Player of the Week honors.

"The ball was looking like a beach ball all week," a happy Barden said to SION reporters. "When it's that big, it doesn't matter where they throw it -- I can hit it anywhere."

The 27-year-old first baseman hit .462 (12-26) last week with 2 home runs, 6 RBIs and 7 runs scored.

Thus far this year Barden has hit .320 with 2 home runs and 12 RBIs.
Monday, April 28th, 2008: Nelson Punishes PCL Pitchers This Week
It was announced today that Memphis second baseman John Nelson had received the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week Award for his impressive play last week.

All week long he was terrific at the plate and won the honor with a .464 BA (13-28), 1 home run and 4 RBIs.

In 2008 Nelson is hitting .397 with 27 hits, 4 home runs, 12 RBIs, .455 OBP and has scored 11 runs.
