| Breaking News |  | Tuesday, August 12th, 2008: Detroit's Peavy in Shutout Victory In an impressive mound performance, Jake Peavy of the Detroit Tigers checked the Minnesota Twins on a 4-hitter and held them scoreless.
"He was getting ahead of us and keeping the ball off the plate," according to the Minnesota manager.
"Peavy kept us confused the whole game."
The Detroit hurler rang up 8 strikeouts and issued 1 walk in his 4-0 shutout victory.
Up to now Peavy has compiled an ERA of 4.86 with a 10-3 mark over 18 starts. He has 136 strikeouts in 126 innings and has held opponents to a .264 batting average. |  | Monday, August 11th, 2008: AL Names Tigers Second Baseman Winner All week long Placido Polanco made the highlight reels and made headlines -- his name and face were everywhere. So it was no surprise to anyone when he was chosen the American League's Player of the Week for his standout performance.
Polanco put up a solid set of stats, compiling a .481 average (13-27) and contributing 3 home runs and 7 RBIs to claim the honor.

It was presented earlier today to Magglio Ordonez for his red-hot week of hitting.
The Detroit right fielder took home the trophy by splurging with 15 hits in 25 at-bats for a .600 batting average, driving in 8 runs and scoring 5 times.
